Moving to Mauritius has been an interesting and exciting journey for me and my family. As South African expats, we’ve embraced the island lifestyle, exploring the beauty and luxury that Mauritius has to offer.
Recently, we planned a stay at the Tamassa Bel Ombre, an all-inclusive resort nestled on the pristine beaches of the island’s southern coast. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this would be a vacation to remember.
Here’s a look at our experience in one of their stunning beach rooms.

The Beach Room: A Slice of Paradise
Our beach room at Tamassa Bel Ombre was everything we could have hoped for. Situated just steps from the sand, the room offered breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean.
The decor was modern yet cozy, with bright colors and natural elements that perfectly captured the island vibe. The room was spacious enough for our little family, with a comfortable king-sized bed for us and a cozy single bed for our toddler.
The best part? The sliding doors that opened onto a private terrace where we could enjoy our morning coffee while listening to the gentle waves. It quickly became our favorite spot to unwind.
The bathroom was equally impressive, featuring a luxurious rainfall shower and plenty of space for our needs. The thoughtful touches, such as beach towels and a mini-bar stocked with our favorite drinks, added to the overall experience.
All-Inclusive Perfection
Staying at Tamassa Bel Ombre on an all-inclusive package was truly a treat. The resort’s dining options were plentiful, with several restaurants and bars to choose from.
We started our days at Show, the main restaurant, where the live cooking stations allowed us to watch our meals being prepared fresh. The buffet spread was impressive, with everything from traditional dishes to familiar favorites, making it easy for everyone in the family to find something they loved.
Lunch at Playa were a particular treat, with the restaurant’s Mediterranean-inspired menu and beachfront setting creating the perfect ambiance. The fresh seafood was a standout, and we loved enjoying a leisurely meal while listening to the sound of the waves.
One of the unexpected delights at Tamassa Hotel was discovering the fun and casual dining options that added a unique twist to our culinary experience. The Burger Truck quickly became a family favorite, serving up delicious, gourmet burgers right by the pool. Whether we were craving a classic cheeseburger or something with a local flair, the Burger Truck hit the spot every time. It was the perfect place to grab a quick, satisfying bite between our poolside relaxation and beach activities.
For those with a sweet tooth, Scoop was an absolute treat. This charming ice cream stand offered a variety of creamy, indulgent flavors that were perfect for cooling off in the tropical heat. From rich chocolate to refreshing tropical fruit sorbets, every scoop was a little taste of paradise. The kids couldn’t get enough of it, and honestly, neither could we.
Evenings found us at the B Bar, where we relaxed with expertly crafted cocktails and a selection of wines and spirits. The atmosphere was laid-back yet sophisticated, making it an ideal spot to unwind.
For a bit of fun after dinner, we ventured to Jalsa Night Club, where the lively music and energetic vibe kept us entertained late into the night.
The all-inclusive package also included unlimited drinks, which was perfect for cooling down with a tropical cocktail by the pool or enjoying a glass of wine with dinner. The resort’s bars were well-stocked, and the bartenders were always ready to whip up something special.
Family Fun and Relaxation
Tamassa Bel Ombre truly shines as a family-friendly resort. Our toddler had a blast at the kids’ club, where the activities ranged from arts and crafts to mini cooking classes. The club’s staff were attentive and made sure our little one was entertained and well-cared-for, giving my husband and me some much-needed relaxation time.
The resort also offered plenty of activities for the whole family. We spent our days alternating between the beach and the resort’s three swimming pools. We also took advantage of the complimentary water sports, including kayaking and paddleboarding, which provided endless fun in the crystal-clear lagoon.
For some extra pampering, I indulged in a spa treatment at the resort’s Spa. The massage was heavenly, and the serene setting made it easy to unwind completely. Meanwhile, my husband enjoyed a workout at the well-equipped fitness center, which offered everything from yoga classes to cardio machines.

Best Time to Visit Tamassa Bel Ombre
Mauritius is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit Tamassa Hotel is during the island’s cooler, dry season from May to December. During these months, the weather is warm and pleasant. This is perfect for enjoying the beach, water sports, and outdoor activities without the intense heat of summer.
Visiting during this period also means fewer chances of rain, making it ideal for family vacations. If you prefer fewer crowds and slightly lower rates, consider planning your stay during the cooler months of May, June, September, or October.
What to Pack for Your Vacation
Packing for a stay at Tamassa Hotel is all about being prepared for both relaxation and adventure. Be sure to bring plenty of swimsuits, as you’ll likely spend much of your time by the pool or on the beach.
A good sunhat, sunglasses, and strong sunscreen are essential to protect yourself from the tropical sun.
Lightweight, breathable clothing is a must, along with a few smarter outfits for dining in the resort’s restaurants.
Don’t forget comfortable sandals or flip-flops for the beach, and perhaps a pair of water shoes if you plan to explore rocky shores.
For outdoor activities, pack a pair of sturdy walking shoes, a reusable water bottle, and insect repellent.
Lastly, a waterproof phone case or dry bag is handy for protecting your belongings while enjoying water sports.
